South Region: Government Offers FCFA 123 Million Incentive to producers of Grade 1 Cocoa

2207 Cocoa producers in the South Region have received the sum of FCFA 123 208 960 as incentive for producing Grade I Cocoa during the 2018/19 and 2019/20 cocoa seasons. 

This was during the fourth week of the on-going distribution exercise of the cocoa quality premium that held under the auspices of Mr. Luc Magloire Mbarga Atangana, Minister of Trade, from 22nd to the 25th of November 2022 in the localities of Djoum, Meyomessi, Sangmelima, Ebolowa, Biwong-Bulu, Biwong-Bane, Mvangan and Mbalmayo. 

The Minister of Trade reminded beneficiaries that the incentive was part of President Paul Biya’s policy of improving market- perception of Cameroon cocoa, fighting against clandestine buyers and practices, and improving on the living conditions of cocoa producers. 

The distribution of premiums for the South Region was follows: 

  • In DJOUM, 685 Beneficiaries from 2 cooperatives received 37,724,040FCFA
  • In MEYOMESSI, 170 Beneficiaries from 1 cooperative received 8,535,560FCFA
  • In SANGMELIMA, 545 Beneficiaries from 1 cooperative received 3,860,800FCFA
  • In EBOLOWA, 224 Beneficiaries from 5 cooperatives received 17,283,520FCFA
  • In BIWONG-BULU, 158 Beneficiaries from 2 cooperatives received 19,978,000FCFA
  • In BIWONG-BANE, 90 Beneficiaries from 1 cooperative received 11,204,000FCFA
  • In MVANGAN, 160 Beneficiaries from 1 cooperative received 19,961,000FCFA
  • In MBALMAYO, 175 Beneficiaries from 3 cooperatives received 4,662,040FCFA

The distribution of the 2018/19 and 2019/20 Cocoa premium brings together all stakeholders and institutions of the cocoa sector; Ministry of Trade (MINCOMMERCE), National Cocoa and Coffee Board(NCCB), Cocoa and Coffee Sector Development Fund (CCODEF), Cocoa and Coffee Interprofessional Council (CCIC), Exporters, Producer Cooperatives and Buyers and farmers.

The distribution exercise continues for Week 5 (Five) in the localities of AMBAM, MVENGUE and MBANKOMO.
